Janesville Police warn of possible Gas and Electric scam

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV)--- According to Janesville Police, Today people have reported being told to go to Dollar General and purchase Green Dot credit cards to pay off outstanding bills.

Police say a person called potential victims and claimed to be with Alliant Energy and demanded Green Dot cards be used to pay off outstanding bills. Dollar General has been notifying people who come in to purchase the cards that this may be a scam. They have been telling customers to call Alliant to confirm the request before following through. It sounds like several people have come in to make large monetary purchases for the same purpose. This is meant for informational purposes in the event you receive a call.

Janesville Police recommends you contact your power and light providers if you receive a similar call and verify the request before sending any money.
