MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Dane County Circuit Court Judge Stephen Ehlke found there was probable cause in the case of a former nurse accused of abusing infants while working in the NICU at UnityPoint Health - Meriter Hospital.

Christopher Kaphaem was charged with 19 counts of abuse while working in the NICU.

During the preliminary hearing Dec. 19, a detective from the Madison Police Department and a Board Certified Child Abuse Pediatrician at the UW School of Medicine took the stand to explain different parts of the case.

The detective talked about information in the criminal complaint. Dr. Barbara Knox explained the extent of injuries.

Kaphaem allegedly hurt nine infants while working in the NICU, according to court documents.

Injuries to those babies range from unexplained bruising to skull and arm fractures.

In September, a judge set a signature bond of $500 per case of abuse.

NBC15 has been following this case since we first learned of the injuries to infants in February.
