MONONA, Wis. (WMTV) -- Kristie Schilling, CEO of the Monona East Side Business Alliance (MESBA), has registered as a write-in candidate for the Mayor of Monona.

Schilling made the announcement in a press release Friday.

Incumbent Mayor Mary O'Connor is running uncontested in the spring primary on April 2.

Schilling said she registered as a write-in because "people need options." When asked why she made the decision so late, Schilling said, "The residents of Monona deserve a real choice when it comes to the leadership of our city."

Schilling has been the CEO of MESBA for more than four years.

If elected, Schilling said she would resign from her CEO position after assisting the MESBA board in finding her replacement. She said she would also be willing to serve as a consultant to assist the new MESBA CEO.
