MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Madison police said they found a stolen handgun after a witness spotted two "suspicious people" running into the woods on Madison's east side.

Police said just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, someone called to report two men dressed in black hanging out behind Mike's Horseshoe Bar & Grill on Dempsey Road. One person was wearing a face mask and hood, the other had a hood up, and one of them appeared to have a gun.

According to police, the two men might have realized someone was watching them because they took off running into nearby woods.

A Madison Police K9 picked up their trail, and led officers to a fenced-in backyard on Claire Street. There, police found a bag with a loaded handgun. The gun was listed stolen in Dane County a couple of years ago.

No suspects were located.
