MPD: Man calls 911, fakes emergency

MADISON, Wis. (MWTV)--- A Madison man faces several charges after he claimed he was shot on Tuesday evening.

Joel DeSpain, a spokesperson with the Madison Police Department, said officers responded to an apartment in the 4900 block of Mineral Point Road around 9:15 p.m. When first responders arrived on scene, many neighbors told them they knew of no gunfire or anyone being hurt.

DeSpain said officers made contact with the man who had called 911. He proceeded to fight with them. One MPD sergeant suffered a blow to the head that caused a sizable lump.

42-year-old Jason J. McCarthy of Madison was arrested for dialing 911 for false emergency, resisting/obstructing, disorderly conduct, causing substantial bodily harm/soft tissue injury.
