MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- A Madison man is out $900 after being part of a spoofing scam.

The 26-year-old told Madison Police that he got a call from their non-emergency number: 608-255-2345. The caller said his name was “Officer Kevin Grant.”

According to a report, the man was told he was named as a suspect in some sort of criminal enterprise against a child. The scammer told the man that the fake victim’s mother would not press charges if he paid $900.

The 26-year-old became confused by the phone call and ended up wiring the requested funds to an address in the Dominican Republic.
