MPD helps man contemplating suicide in downtown parking ramp

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Madison police said officers successfully talked a man who was contemplating suicide down from the ledge of the State Street Capitol Parking Ramp.

Officials said the man had his feet hanging off the sixth floor of the parking ramp on Carroll Street around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Central District's Mental Health Officer, along with other officers, helped the man, who police said suffers from alcohol and mental health issues.

Officers took him into protective custody to connect him with helpful resources.
