One man dead in Madison house fire

3:00pm Update:

City of Madison Fire Chief Steve Davis says the investigation into the Sheffield Rd. fire does not show signs of any criminal activity and authorities believe it was accidental.

The woman resident who was able to escape the fire and was treated at hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. She is expected to make a full recovery.

The woman is related to the man who died in the fire. Their specific relation has not been confirmed.

An autopsy report will be released after an investigation by the medical examiner.


10:59 a.m. update:

One man is dead after a house fire on the south side of Madison Saturday night.

A 64-year-old white male was confirmed as deceased according to Madison Police Chief Mike Koval's blog Sunday morning.

The name of the victim has not been released. This investigation is ongoing.


Two people were injured in a house fire on the south side of Madison Saturday night.

A report of a fire at the residence in the 4200 block of Sheffield Rd. came in just after 6:50 p.m. Saturday night.

Officials say one person was inside the home at the time and pulled from the fire. Another resident was outside. Both were taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

The house is expected to be a total loss, but there is no damage estimate yet.

A cause is still under investigation.
