Madison Municipal Building project earns state and national awards

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Madison's Engineering Division earned two awards Wednesday for the restoration of the Madison Municipal Building.

The restoration project earned a national Project of the Year award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) and an APWA-Wisconsin Chapter Project of the Year Award for 2019.

A spokesperson for the Engineering Division said the awards recognize the partnerships between contractors, managing agencies and consultants, architects and engineers.

Madison Engineering worked with MSR Design and JP Cullen on the restoration project. The planning, design, restoration and renovation took four years.

"Identifying common goals between the city and design team was a critical part of the process from the beginning," said MSR Design. "A wide range of city staff from City Engineering and each department involved carefully reviewed and vetted each design phase, and the design team used the comments as a basis for subsequent design phases."

The restoration including completely restoring the outside, renovating the inside and replacing electrical and plumbing systems.
