A Madison landmark is planning to close its doors at the end of the month. After 42 years, Ella's Deli is saying goodbye to its customers.

For Sena Pollock, nothing compares to an ice cream cone from Ella's Deli.

"She was pretty upset," said Sena's dad, Keith Pollock, about when Sena found out the restaurant was closing.

"It's my favorite ice cream place and it'd just be really really weird to not have it be there," said Sena.

So she went straight to source where she first found out the news. You'll find her solution in the editorial section of Sunday's Wisconsin State Journal.

Ella's Deli Owner Ken Balkin said he thinks it's a pretty sweet idea too.

"This 11-year-old girl, the sweetest thing, talks about how she wants Ella's to live on and that was just really terrific and we've heard about it from so many different areas and it was really nice to meet her," said Balkin. posted Sena's Letter to the Editor on January 5:

"I read in the newspaper that Ella's Deli is closing. It is my favorite ice cream place. I don't want it to close.

Of course, I don't have $1.2 million, but I have an idea that if lots of people put in a little bit of money to create a co-op to buy and run the restaurant, it could remain open.

I am only 11, but I would be willing to put $62 in to help save one of my favorite places in Madison.

Please join me in saving Ella's Deli.

Sena Pollock, Madison"

Ella's Deli posted the following statement on the restaurant's website:

"Notice to our customers:

Ella's closing January 21, 2018

It is with sad hearts that we announce that Ella's Deli will be closing at our current location. It has been our privilege to be a part of the Madison community for 42 years.

Ella's has always been about people and we are so very grateful to all our customers and employees. To the many families that have visited us, including over multiple generations, we have enjoyed getting to know you and meeting your children and then your children's children. We hope you can visit us, say hi, and enjoy your favorites one last time. Our last day of business will be around January 21, 2018. We may modify our hours to accommodate our employees. We will update on our Facebook page with changes as we make them.
