MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A man is behind bars after breaking into an apartment in Madison Tuesday morning.

Madison police say a resident grabbed a baseball bat after her dog alerted her of a stranger inside the apartment next door in the 1800 block of East Washington Avenue around 5 a.m.

The resident says the stranger was looking into her residence from an upper-level patio.

Officers later found and arrested the suspect. He told police that he had entered through an unlocked door and jumped onto the patio from another patio.

He said he meant no harm and was trying to get out of the rain.
Madison police arrested him for disorderly conduct and bail jumping.
