MPD: Man stabs man during anniversary dinner with wife at restaurant

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)----A 63-year-old man was out to dinner with his wife when he has stabbed by another man at a Madison restaurant on Thursday night.
According to the Madison Police Department, it happened at the LongHorn Steakhouse on S. Gammon Road just after 6:30 p.m. The Freeport, Illinois couple was enjoying a wedding anniversary dinner when a knife-wielding stranger began stabbing the man in the shoulder.
Police said a wait staff member had previously noticed the suspect’s strange behavior and was keeping an eye on him. "He had a look in his eye and was twitching and mumbling to himself," recounted the waiter. When the suspect got up from his table, the 43-year-old employee jumped into action. He threw himself at the suspect, knocking him down. The suspect got back up and started attacking the employee. Several people helped disarm and hold down the suspect while police were called. Some people went to help the victim and his wife.
They said as officers took the suspect into custody, the restaurant erupted in applause. Many people personally thanked the waiter for his actions.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of several wounds.
48-year-old Rickey J. Resch of Madison was arrested for 1st degree reckless endangerment while armed.
MPD said they will be nominating the waiter and several other people who helped for departmental citizen recognition awards.
