MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The man charged with a beating death plead not guilty at a preliminary hearing at the Dane County Courthouse on Thursday.

Jacob Johnson, 24, is accused along with 21-year-old Drew Luber and 20-year-old McKayla Tracy of beating Dalton Ziegler to death in the Town of Dane in October.

They are all facing charges of felony murder, party to a crime.

Luber has a final pre-trial hearing on Jan. 8.

Tracy will be in court on Dec. 6 for a status conference.

According to Dane County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home on State Highway 113 in the Town of Dane on Oct. 30 for an unconscious man.

Life-saving efforts were performed, but were unsuccessful.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness said three to four people were at the house the day before.

One of them called for a ride from friends and two more people arrived at the home.

The Sheriff's Office said a fight occurred shortly afterwards. Everyone left the house, leaving the victim alone with severe injuries. Later, one person came back and called 911.
