Man shot in hand provides false information to police

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - Police said a man was shot inside his home during an attempted robbery early Wednesday morning.

The Janesville Police Department said they were able to determine the victim in the shooting provided false information that the shooting happened outside of his home. A search warrant was drafted for the victim’s home, and authorities determined it happened inside the victim’s home.

Officers were called to North Terrace just after 1 a.m. for a man with a gunshot wound. They found a 48-year-old man who had been shot in the hand.

The man said a person tried to rob him at gunpoint, but he tried to grab the gun which started a struggle. During the struggle, the gun fired into the man's hand.

The shooter ran away. Janesville police tried to track the person down with K9s, but no one was found.
Officers said this appears to be a targeted incident, with no danger to the public.

The man was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was treated and released.
