SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) -- Menards is opening its new store in Sun Prairie on Tuesday morning.

The Sun Prairie location will replace the Menards on Madison's east side. The new store is more than 200,000 square feet. It is nearly triple the size of the east side location.

"We;ve expanded out lighting displays...our kitchen displays are amazing, there so many to choose from," said the store's General Manager Steve Hendricks, "We added a whole pet and grocery department. It's basically a one-stop-shop."

The Menards is one piece of a development project happening on Sun Prairie's west side. Over several years the city has welcomed multiple commercial businesses.

"We've been really fortunate. People are really excited," said Sun Prairie's Economic Director, Neil Stechschulte, "And we think there's more to come."

Stechschulte said the Menards, Target, Cabelas and new movie theater are retailers that will bring customers. He said they're now looking to add more small businesses to build character on the city's west side.

The Menards store will be open from 6:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. The Menards' east side Madison location will close on July 20th.
