After a report from Madison police that there were several unexplained injuries in the newborn intensive care unit at Meriter Hospital in Madison, a spokesperson at UnityPoint Health - Meriter released an updated statement Friday afternoon.

The statement reads as follows:

"Though we are limited in what we can disclose at this time, UnityPoint Health – Meriter is committed to sharing updates about the situation in our hospital, as we recognize how important this is to our community. Our investigation is ongoing, enhanced safety precautions remain in place, and we have every reason to believe our babies are safe. We also continue to work closely with authorities. Our patients, their families and our community remain our top priority. Any former patients are welcome to contact the hospital with questions or concerns."

Earlier in the week it was revealed that an employee at Meriter was suspended after the unexplained injures were reported.
