Missing woman's body found

GRANT COUNTY, Wis (WMTV) The body of a missing Chicago woman has been found.

According to the Grant County Sheriff, the family of 29-year-old Virginia Aberle and numerous volunteers have been looking for her body, after she was presumed drowned in the Mississippi off of Wyalusing Beach.

On Saturday, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a fisherman near the Glen Haven boat landing. The caller indicated he had found what he believed to be a body in the water.

The Glen Haven Fire Department was paged to respond out on the Mississippi to confirm what he had located and after a short time they confirmed it was a human body floating in about 1 foot of water 100 yards or so west of the Glen Haven boat landing.

The Grant County Dive Team and the Grant County Coroner responded to the scene to recover the body. An autopsy was conducted on August 21st in Madison. The autopsy confirmed the identity of the body to be that of Virginia Aberle and was ruled an accidental drowning.
