More than 17,000 pounds of cheese to be donated to Houston

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- We're known for our love for cheese here in the Badger state and we're sending some of our love to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and two dozen cheese companies throughout the state are getting together to donate more than 17,000 pounds of cheese to Houston. From string cheese to cheese curds, on Friday they started packing up a delivery truck and it will be donated to the Houston Food Bank, the nation's largest food bank.

Organizers say this is just one thing we can do to help those who have been through so much.

"It's a very small thing for us to do with what they're facing but let's face it, cheese is comfort food, it makes you happy. If we can bring a little bit of happiness to the folks down there then that's what we want to do," said Suzanne Fanning, WI Milk Marketing Board.

The shipment will also include 300 pounds of butter. The truck will leave Tuesday and the goal is to be in Houston by Thursday.
