COLUMBIA COUNTY, Wis. (WMTV)---- Authorities have identified a man killed in a three-vehicle crash near Columbus on Tuesday night.

Sheriff Roger L. Brandner from Columbia County said 38-year-old David P. Bickel of Mukwonago was pronounced dead at the scene. Bickel was a passenger inside a pickup truck.

Authorities said the crash happened just after 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 151 near the Highway 73 exit into the city. It closed the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 151 near Columbus.

Authorities said a semi-truck hit a truck that was headed northbound on U.S. Highway 151. The preliminary investigation showed the semi-truck didn’t slow down as it came up to slowing traffic. The semi-truck crashed into a pickup truck with three men inside. The driver and another passenger were taken by medical helicopter to a Madison hospital with serious injuries. Two men in the semi-truck were injured, but they were each wearing a seat belt.

Several other vehicles were involved in the crash. The people inside those vehicles received minor injuries.

Authorities said the crash was likely caused by speeding in a work zone and inattentive driving.
