Corn dryer fire rekindled Wednesday morning in Fitchburg.
Fitchburg fire crews returned to the scene of a corn dryer fire Wednesday morning after the fire rekindled.
According to the Fitchburg Fire Department, the fire started at grain bin on the 4900 block of Irish Lane shortly around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday. A number of neighboring fire departments including Fitchburg, Fitchrona and Oregon responded to the fire.
A spokesperson for the Fitchburg Fire Department said there was heavy smoke when crews arrived at the farm. After removing corn from the bin they discovered the fire in a void space underneath the silage.
A majority of the firefighters left the scene roughly four hours and thirty minutes later after smoke conditions diminished significantly. Some personnel did remain on scene overnight to continue to monitor fire conditions.
No injuries were reported.
The spokesperson said the fire rekindled Wednesday morning and as of 11:30 a.m. crews were still at the scene. They are unsure the exact time the fire rekindled. Additional equipment was brought to the farm on Wednesday morning to finish emptying the silo.
There is no word as to the extent of the damage.
