National consumer protection week tips

In 2017, 30 million Americans had their packages stolen from their front porch according to the Federal Trade Commission. People who steal packages from homes are called, "porch pirates." National Consumer Protection Week (March 3-9) reminds people of tips on how to protect themselves.

Three simple tips to protect packages from porch pirates is request a signature for package deliveries, pick up the package at a designated drop-off center or rent a mailbox at UPS or other shipping companies that is specifically for packages.

Identity theft is another concern people should know how to protect themselves. Tips to keep your identity safe, shred any important documents that have personal information. Do not send checks in your personal mailbox. Mail them through a secure location at the post office, FedEx or UPS.
