Neighbors feel 'eerie' about home explosion crime
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- A quiet Madison neighborhood was rocked by the news of their neighbor killing his wife and blowing up his home as a cover up.
Madison police took Steven Pirus into custody for 1st degree intentional homicide, arson, and reckless endangerment after he admitted to killing his wife and blowing up his home. Police say a preliminary autopsy revealed that Lee Anne had been dead for weeks, possibly months.
"It goes to show that stuff like this can happen anywhere," neighbor Staci Aparicio-Smith said.
Lee Anne was a friend to some, neighbors say. Many neighbors didn't know her well, but are stunned to hear about her tragic death.
"Makes you feel like you really need to check on your neighbors when you don't see them around anymore," Carmen Connor said.
The investigation of the explosion and Lee Anne's death is ongoing.
