MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Four members of the Madison Police Department were injured by a man during a domestic incident on Madison's west side Tuesday morning.

Police said a sergeant and three officers suffered minor injuries during the call at the Llori Terrace Apartments on Schroeder Road.

According to police, a woman had been the victim of domestic violence at the apartment Monday night. Officers were keeping her safe while she went into the apartment Tuesday to retrieve some belongings. That's when police said the suspect in the domestic violence case, 31-year-old Davarius Riggins, attacked the officers.

Riggins was arrested on three counts of felony resisting, and is also under investigation for the domestic situation.

An NBC15 crew on scene saw a man being taken away on a stretcher, after being handcuffed by police.

Riggins has been the focus of internal bulletins regarding officer safety, according to police. They said "he is a self-described sovereign citizen and does not believe in societal rules or laws."
