MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Many questions have been answered surrounding a controversial investigation into a Madison home explosion on Wednesday.

"Steven Pirus shot and killed his wife Lee Anne," Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said at a press conference Sunday.

Madison Police say 59-year-old Steven Pirus, shot and killed his wife, 50-year-old Lee Anne Pirus weeks, possibly months ago. According to police, Steven admitted to blowing up his home in attempt to cover-up the crime.

Police arrested Steven Pirus Saturday night on felony charges of 1st degree homicide, reckless endangerment, and arson.

The Dane County Medical Examiner's office released their findings of a preliminary autopsy on Sunday. Authorities say Lee Anne died as a result of a homicidal firearm trauma, and not because of explosion injuries.

Fire officials say Steven manufactured his own way to make the home explode. They believe gas was a factor, but Madison Gas and Electric has deemed the gas lines in the neighbor as safe.

The explosion and death remain under investigation.
