Officials investigate drowning incident on Big Green Lake
Authorities in Green Lake County say a man drowned in Big Green Lake Saturday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Sheriff's Office, the Green Lake County 911 Dispatch Center received numerous calls of a possible drowning victim on Big Green Lake at around 1:30 p.m.
The Green Lake County Sheriff's Office Boat Patrol responded and located the area where the man was last seen. Markers were placed in the last known possible location. The man's body was located just after 7:00 p.m. in 109 feet of water.
The Green Lake County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Green Lake-Brooklyn Fire Dept, Princeton Fire Dept Water rescue, Markesan Fire Dept Water Rescue, Neshkoro Fire Dept Water Rescue, Wautoma Fire Dept Water Rescue, Fort McCoy Fire Dept Water Rescue, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR Conservation Wardens, Berlin Ambulance Service, Green Lake Police Dept, Berlin Police Dept, and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office Dive Team.
Assistance was also provided by Shoreline Boat Center of Green Lake, Bruce's Legacy Water Rescue of Black River Falls, WI, and numerous concerned citizens who provided invaluable assistance in maintaining a safe perimeter for rescue workers to perform their duties.
The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending completion of the investigation.
