Oregon man arrested for attempted homicide

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Madison police said they arrested a man for attempted homicide on Wednesday during a traffic stop on Mineral Point Road.

Ronald Rice, Jr., 35, of Oregon, Wis. is suspected of shooting a 26-year-old Madison man in the leg during a fight inside an apartment building on Madison's southwest side, according to police.

The fight happened on Wickham Court in the early morning hours of May 19. Shots were fired while police were responding to the disturbance, and when they arrived, officers saw many cars leaving the area.

No one reported being shot at the apartment, but a short time later, the victim showed up at a hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police said they pinpointed Rice as the suspect, and he has been tentatively charged with attempted first degree homicide, first degree reckless endangerment, and felon in possession of a firearm.
