Janesville homicide victim identified

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV)—Authorities have identified a man killed in a shooting in Janesville early Sunday morning.

The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department said 28-year-old Eddie Lee Jones of Markham, Illinois died at local hospital as a result of homicidal firearm trauma.

Jones was found inside a home in the 100 block of S. Franklin Street just after midnight.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV)---A homicide that took place in Janesville early Sunday morning could be drug-related.

During a news conference on Monday, police said the victim did have drugs on him when he was shot inside a home on South Franklin Street just after midnight.

Police said the gun that was used has not been recovered.

Chief Moore said 25 officers and detectives worked the case. They were able to identify the suspect, 32-year-old Barquis Odom, within 19 hours and arrest him in 21 hours.

They are still investigating the verbal argument that was overheard before the gunshots began.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) -- Janesville police have arrested 32-year-old Barquis Odom, from Beloit, in connection to the Sunday morning homicide.

Police found Odom on the city's west side around 9:15 p.m. Sunday night. Police arrested Odom without any incident.

He was arrested and is currently being held at Rock County jail pending his initial appearance in court. He is facing 1st degree Intentional Homicide and Possession of Firearm by felon charges.

Janesville Police will be holding a press conference at noon Monday to discuss their investigation.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) -- Janesville police are investigating a homicide that happened early Sunday morning.

Police say they responded to a home on the 100 block of South Franklin Street around 12:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired. The caller said a man had been shot in the face.

Police say they found the victim in the home with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There is no suspect in custody, according to officials. Police say preliminary information suggests this was not a random act of violence and the suspect was most likely known by the victim.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

Police say a press conference will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday at the Janesville Police Department.
