One person dead, man arrested after car vs. pedestrian crash on Madison's east side
A pedestrian is dead and a man has been arrested after a crash on Highway 12 Monday night.
According to the Madison Police Department, just after 7 p.m., there was a crash between a car and a pedestrian on Highway 12 near Millpond Road on Madison's east side.
Officers said the pedestrian that was hit was pronounced dead at the scene, and 37-year-old Shuan Jones was arrested for the crash. According to police, after the crash they interviewed Jones and later took him into custody for Knowingly Operating While Revoked Causing Death, Ignition Interlock Device Tampering; Failure to Install, and Resisting/Obstructing an Officer.
According to court documents, Jones has three prior OWI convictions. His license was revoked, and he was ordered to install an Ignition Interlock Device on April 10, 2015 after the third charge. Since then, Jones has had multiple Operating While Revoked violations.
The car he was driving was recovered by police. The name of the deceased pedestrian will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.
Highway 12 heading east was blocked off found around five hours while police officers, investigators, a sergeant and a traffic crash specialist were on scene. The roads are back open for Tuesday morning's commute.
