MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Madison Police are searching for a 35-year-old Verona man, after police say he nearly hit a pedestrian while driving a vehicle, and drove off from officers.
Officers responded to a welfare call Saturday afternoon, for a man and women who were unconscious inside of a running van.
As officers walked up to the side of the vehicle, the driver woke up, and sped off. Officers called after the man to stop driving, but he kept driving.
A 56-year-old man later saw the van speeding down Waxwing Lane on Madison’s north side. The man told police he, “feared for his life,” as he waved his arms and tried to get a speeding van to slow down. The victim had to quickly step out of the way to avoid being hit.
Officers were not able to catch the suspect, but were able to identify him. There is probably cause to arrest him for first degree reckless endangerment and fleeing an officer.
