Police searching for man behind a violent armed robbery in downtown Madison

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Police are searching for a man behind a violent armed robbery in downtown Madison Tuesday night.

According to the Madison Police Department, it happened just after 11 p.m. on East Gilman Street at the Lakeshore Apartments.

Officers said a 32-year-old man was outside working on his car when another man allegedly approached him with a gun, before pistol whipping him, and stealing from the man. The thief ran away, but the victim did run after him, losing the man when he got into a car on North Butler Street.

That car is described as a late 1990's Honda Accord with defective muffler. Police have not found the man behind the armed robbery, but he is described as a light-skinned African-American man, between 20 and 30 years old, around 6 feet 2 inches tall with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a gray and red baseball cap with a flat red brim.
