Resident fires a shot to scare off burglar

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) --- A homeowner scared off a burglar Saturday morning with a gun, according to Janesville Police.

They say at around 4 a.m. officers were called for a burglary in progress on the 1600 block of Morningside Drive.

The resident told police that a suspect had entered his unlocked apartment and woke him up. The resident found the suspect hiding behind some furniture inside the apartment.

Police say the homeowner was scared and grabbed a nearby firearm, shooting a single bullet at the suspect but did not hit him.

The suspect then ran from the apartment. Authorities set up a perimeter and searched for the man with a K-9.

They are now asking the public for help finding the suspect, described as a black man with a thin build and no facial hair. He was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.

The homeowner was not hurt and nothing was stolen. Police are still investigating the incident.
