COLUMBIA COUNTY, Wis. (WMTV) -- A semi driver is sentenced to 60 days in jail, after a 2017 crash that killed another driver.
Patrick Craft, 42, was sentenced to four years of probation and 60 days in jail, for the crash that happened in August 2017.
Craft sped through an intersection without stopping at the stop sign, when his semi crashed into a van that was driven by Christine Novak.
Novak died as a result of her injuries in the crash.
Assistant District Attorney Mary Ellen Karst said during sentencing, “Driving here, I read the DOT’s, ‘You drive, you text, you pay’ sign. Many people see these signs but don’t think it will happen to them. This is the kind of tragic consequence that results from distracted driving.’
Karst argued that Craft should be sentenced to one year of conditional jail time.
