"Shake the Lake" hosts thousands along Lake Monona

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)-- Thousands were in downtown Madison Saturday night for the annual Festival Foods "Shake the Lake" festival and firework show.

The festival ran from 5:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m, between Broom and Blair Streets on John Nolen Drive.

It is considered one of the biggest firework shows in the state. Festival organizers estimated there were roughly 70,000 people at the event. Some of the festivities included a petting zoo and concerts.

"Madison is a really big community, full of families, college students, it's awesome," said event leader Chelsea Norkol. 'So to be able to put on a free event alone is just amazing, and then fireworks too, so close to the Fourth of July, it's one of the biggest firework shows in Wisconsin so it's awesome."

John Nolen Drive will reopen for traffic at 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
