MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) It's only early January but it continues to feel more like Spring. Not only do we have the mild temperatures but now we also have the heavy rainfall. Widespread rain totals of a half to one inch are likely by Monday evening across southern Wisconsin.
This is a lot of rain for January standards and could have an impact on area rivers as we move through the week. Localized ponding of water is also possible through Monday.
To add insult to injury, winds will be gusty as well. Look sustained winds of around 20 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph, especially early Monday. Those driving high profile vehicles should be prepared for the gusty conditions.
We will be at an "Orange: 2, Medium Impacts" on our Weather Impact Scale for a combination of the heavier rainfall and gusty winds. Rain should taper off from west to east by Monday afternoon with cooler air moving in on the backside of the system.
