MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Madison's StageQ Theater has a busy start to the summer season with "Queer Shorts: Spirit of Stonewall" running June 14 through June 29.

The theater was founded in 2001 to provide a home for gay and lesbian-themed plays in the Madison community.

Director Betsy Wood and actor Ren Kaspar joined NBC15's Meghan Reistad on NBC15 News at 11 to talk about the theme of the show and its historical significance.

The show encompasses anger, rebellion and unyielding pride.

It shares "stories of overcoming persecution and bigotry, stories of love triumphing over hate, stories of perseverance and acceptance," according to StageQ's website. "The goal is to present stories of how our community has risen over the past half century and where our community is heading in our continuing fight for visibility and equality."

The show will take place on the Evjue Stage. General admission is 20 dollars, and students, seniors, and groups of 10 more more can get tickets for 15 dollars.
