Still time to enter Mendota Lake Freeze contest

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Winter is quickly approaching and with the cold temperatures in Madison people want to know – “When will Lake Mendota freeze?”

According to the release, data from over 165 years show that the median freeze date for Lake Mendota is on December 20.

The Clean Lakes Alliance kicked off its 7th Annual Mendota Freeze contest on Dec. 1. The contest asks people to guess the official ice-on date for Lake Mendota. The first person to correctly guess the date will win a $1,000 gift card, courtesy Lands’ End.
