SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) -- A Sun Prairie teacher is back from a trip to Washington D.C.
Chris Gleason is a band director at Patrick Marsh Middle School. He was named Wisconsin Middle School Teacher of the Year earning the trip along with teachers from other states. There, he talked with Wisconsin legislators and visited the Oval Office meeting President Trump, Vice President Pence and Secretary of Education DeVos.
"The door opened and they say you may go in now and it was the Oval Office so it was a thrill to be able to walk into that space. Just understanding the history of that space was amazing. To meet the President, always an honor, to meet the first lady it was her birthday so we sang to her," said Gleason.
Gleason said the best part was getting to know other teachers from across the country. His said he focused on talking to legislators about elevating the teaching profession and increase funding to schools facing cuts.
