Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy said Wednesday the 2018 Sunflower Days in August has been canceled due to safety concerns.

The conservancy's website said limited parking and anticipated crowd size had organizers worried about families having to walk and cross Old Sauk Road.

The website said, "All of us who have worked so hard on the event over the years believe this is unfortunate, but necessary."

Last year, the conservancy estimated more than 92,000 people came to visit during Sunflower Days, which lasted nine days.

Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy hopes to bring the event back for 2019.
