MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)--- A verbal confrontation on a Madison Metro bus led to a woman being punched a couple of times in the face on Tuesday afternoon.

Joel Despain, a spokesperson for the Madison Police Department, said it happened after several teenagers and a 40-year-old woman got off the bus at the East Transfer Point on West Corporate Drive just before 3:00 p.m.

The woman told officers that after disembarking, she was surrounded by the teens and one teen punched her a couple of times in the face.

Despain said the Madison woman had blood dripping from a cheek, and an eye was beginning to swell as she waived officers down.

The victim said the teens had been loud and disruptive on the bus. She told them to “calm yourselves down”! She said the group then began to call her names, and they later confronted her after all of them got off the bus.

A 17-year-old girl was arrested for battery. Despain said the teen tried to convince officers that the woman had assaulted her first.
