MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Three people were able to safely get out of a car before it was consumed by a fire on Sunday.

According to authorities, the occupants of the car heard some crackling coming from the trunk of the car and shortly after smoke became visible. Within a block, the driver saw flames coming from the vehicle.

Officials say the driver immediately pulled over, unbuckled her child from the back seat and stepped away. Within minutes, the car was consumed in flames.

The Madison Fire Department arrived quickly after being dispatched and extinguished the fire.

MFD says the owner bought the car in May and just got it back after being repaired for engine problems. Evidence suggests the fire started in the trunk, but it's unknown what caused it.

All three occupants were uninjured.
