MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Alliant Energy recommends you take a few steps during the winter to make sure heat doesn’t escape from your home.
1. Open your drapes and let the warm sun shine in. During the night, close the drapes to keep the warm air in.
2. Turn your thermostat down at night and when you’re out of your home. Alliant says you can save up to 10 percent a year on heating by turning the temperature down 7-10 degrees from its normal setting for eight hours a day.
3. Turn fans off when you’re not using them – they can blow hot air out of the house.
4. You can apply for financial help to pay for your heating bill. Households with income at or below 60 percent of the state median income may be eligible for energy assistance.
