Town of Westport crash victims identified

Authorities identified the people killed in a two vehicle crash in the Town of Westport on Friday, June 8.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office released the names of the three people that died in the two vehicle traffic crash on STH 19 just west of River Road around 10:20 a.m.

A car was seen recklessly passing vehicles on the gravel shoulder, traveling eastbound on STH 19 near Waunakee. The driver of the vehicle lost control, crossed the center line, and struck a minivan traveling westbound head-on, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of a Mercedes Benz passenger car was 21-year-old Thomas G. Westrich of Waunakee. Westrich was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner.

The two people in a Chrysler mini-van in the crash are 68-year-old Frank Lee Fundingsland and 64-year-old Lorraine C. Fundingsland of Pardeeville. Frank Fundingsland was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Lorraine Fundingsland was transported to a local Madison hospital and died shortly after arrival, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner.

All three involved in the crash received a forensic examination at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday, June 10. Preliminary results of those examinations confirm that all three died from injuries sustained in the traffic crash. Additional testing is underway at this time.

These deaths remain under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
