MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- In an effort to better understand infant health in Dane County, the Foundation for Women’s Wellness will partner with the Dane County Health Council.
The partnership will help identify root causes and solutions for low birth weight of African-American babies in Dane County. Black women are reportedly two times more likely to give birth to low birth weight babies than white women.
Lisa Peton-Caire, president and founder of the Foundation of Black Women’s Wellness says this is a state and national issue. She also says that the infant mortality rate is three times higher for black women and their babies — than for white mothers across the state.
