UnityPoint Health - Meriter: CMS approves correction plan
UnityPoint Health – Meriter has been given written approval on successfully implementing its plan of correction by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).
Leah Huibregtse, a spokesperson with UnityPoint Health – Meriter, said Meriter will continue to accept Medicare and Medicaid payments.
A follow-up CMS survey in March found 30 violations. The inspection found items were not properly secured to prevent self-harm for psychiatry patients. Staff also did not properly document the use of soft restraints on patients after the restraints were used. Investigators also reported medication was not properly secured.
A follow-up investigation was completed on May 10 showing a plan of correction by Meriter was completed. A few building code violations remained, but according to the report, Meriter ordered the parts needed to correct the issues.
The hospital received a preliminary notification that the corrections were approved in early June.
