Madison, Wis (WMTV) -- University Avenue near Shorewood Hills is set for a makeover
The proposed reconstruction will be on University Avenue between Shorewood Boulevard and University Bay Drive. The city of Madison is working with Shorewood Hills and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to make the roadways safer and more accessible for drivers, bikers and pedestrians.
The goal is to make traveling easier for pedestrians and drivers.
The city plans to add sidewalks for pedestrians that have markings and flashing lights at intersections to make it easier to walk. The driving lanes will also be narrowed to calm traffic and add room for pedestrians.
There will also be an expansion of the multi-use bike path. The storm water system will also be improved to control and manage flooding in the area.
“We really want to make sure we're listening to everybody who is impacted by this and anyone who is using it and make sure it's the best design possible for those using it," Hannah Mohelnitzky, city engineering division public information officer said.
There are a few more public planning meetings before a final decision is made. Construction is set to begin in 2021.
