Zach Barrett's wife, Nicole Barrett, is sharing about her husband and her fears after he was shot Wednesday in Milton.

"They didn't deserve this, to have to be told that their father is never going to be the same anymore," said Nicole.

Nicole and her five children are coping with what happened Wednesday night.

"I'm not worried about me. I'm worried about those kids," said Nicole.

Milton Police Department said Zach Barret is in critical condition after being shot by a Jason Kraayvanger who they said claims it was self-defense.

Nicole said her husband has battled addiction and mental health issues and was intending to hurt himself Wednesday night.

"I wish somebody would have helped me sooner with the situation because he was sick but he didn't deserve what happened to him and nobody does. Nobody deserves to be shot point blank in their head," said Nicole. "To sit there, as a wife, to know that your companion is not really your companion anymore."
