Wis. Dells resort building fire expected to cause $5 million in damage

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (WMTV) - Fire destroyed a building that was under construction at a Wisconsin Dells resort on Thursday morning.

The Wildernes Resort said multiple crews responded to a fire near the resort around 4:10 a.m. The fire was at the building site of the Wilderness Resort J-1 dormitory for students on Adams Street, which is currently under construction. The Lake Delton Fire Department was called and the fire was put out.

Officials do not believe anyone was in the building that was burning and the building next to it was evacuated. There were no injuries and no employees or guests were impacted by the fire.

The Wilderness Resort says the construction for the dormitory was scheduled to be done in June 2018. They also said the resort was not impacted by the fire and will be operating as usual.

A spokesperson with the Lake Delton Fire Department said the preliminary damage estimate is expected to exceed $5 million. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

It’s under investigation by the Lake Delton Fire Department, Lake Delton Police Department and the Department of Criminal Investigation.
