COLUMBIA COUNTY, Wis. (WMTV)--- The Wisconsin River is in Moderate Flood Stage at 18.16 feet, while it continues to recede.
The Department of Natural Resources inspected the levee on Wednesday morning and reported that the levee’s general condition is improving.
Columbia County Emergency Management said two areas of concern have been fenced off to restrict public access, in order to avoid further damage to the levee.
The public is asked to not drive on the levee or park off the road in the grass.
The DNR will monitor the levee until the water level falls below 17.4 feet. According to the Columbia County Emergency Management, current predictions expect the water level to fall below 17.4 feet on Saturday.
There are plans underway to repair the levee as soon as the water level drops sufficiently.
Even though the DNR reported improvement, Columbia County is urging residents to not return to their homes until roads are reopened or their own comfort level allows.
