DEFOREST, Wis. (WMTV)--- Ever thought of being a state trooper? The Wisconsin State Patrol would love to hear from you. The law enforcement agency is looking for potential recruits to join the ranks of its troopers and and inspectors.

Those attending the open house Wednesday had the opportunity to find out more about what troopers and inspectors do, and what career opportunities are available at the Wisconsin State Patrol. Trooper Johanning said, "There's a lot more to us. You know, we're not just the trooper that's sitting out on the interstate. We have a lot of responsibilities. There's a lot that the state patrol has to offer. That's why we want to have this open house."

There are some requirements to become a part of the state patrol. You need to be at least 18 years old, have no felony convictions, and meet a few fitness requirements. Starting salary is $21 per hour. You do not need previous law enforcement experience, and will be trained, if accepted, at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy.

The deadline to apply is March 31. We've attached a link to wistatepatroljobs.wi.gov to this story.

There is one final open house Friday, March 15 from 11 to 1 at the Tomah State Patrol Post.
