MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)--- Forward Madison FC have signed a Madison native ahead of their inaugural season.
The team announced the signing of 26-year-old defender Carl Schneider. According to the team, Schneider is the team’s first ever player born-and-raised in Madison.
“Signing for Forward Madison feels almost surreal,” Schneider said in a press release. “I've been in the Madison soccer community for so long and always aspired to play professionally. I never thought my first pro contract would come in that same Madison community where I learned the game.”
According to the club, Schneider played club soccer for the Madison 56ers. He went on to play high school soccer at Madison Lafollette High School and then at UW-Madison. He impressed head coach Daryl Shore during the team’s invitation tryout last year.
Forward Madison FC open the season April 6th against the Chattanooga Red Wolves. The first home match will be played April 27th at Breese Stevens field against Greenville Triumph SC.
